Footprints on the Waters

Penned here are a few thoughts from a young Christian trying to navigate strange waters. I am still finding my sea legs, I nearly drown sometimes. I stay afloat because I have His hand to hold on to.

God doesn’t want you to live your entire life believing what others tell you about Him. He wants you to find Him for yourself. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”(Jeremiah 29:13) This is my attempt to know Him for myself and to encourage anyone else who is searching. If you’re up for a stroll on the sea, come see what I have found.

The Response to Rape and the Language of Lament

“How long, Lord, must I call for help but you do not listen?Or cry out to you, “Violence” but you do not save? Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?Destruction and violence are before me;There is strife, and conflict abounds. Therefore, the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in…

Rants from the Valley of the Shadow of Death

It’s actually really hard to write this right now. When we’re in the middle of everything, when things are still happening, when we don’t know what comes next. But I want to remember. I want to remember that right in the eye of the storm, I was not alone. She was not alone.

Why is it that I feel like my childhood self was a more authentic version of myself than I am right now? Like – the older I grow, the further I move from that original version of me. Logically, of course, the first version of anything is the original. But is that true for human…

Black Sheep/ What Life’s Been Like Since I Wrote That Post About Women

I feel like I lost everything. My church. The confidence of my family.A potential partner for the future. The good graces of so many people – my friends, relatives, fellow believers. It’s so lonely. And all because I spoke.I feel like a disruption.A rude bump in the smooth mosaic of my relatively nice family.I disturb the peace.I raise their voices…

A Reasonable Faith

Most of us want a faith we can explainA faith that makes sense in wordsAnd looks pretty on paper,A faith that can justify the things we do,And sounds appealing to the world at large,A faith that fits in the hallowed halls of churchesAnd can close its eyes to suffering on the streets,A faith that can…

SPOTIFY WARPED

This is an article about the inability to articulate. The inability to sometimes say exactly what one feels or is going through. I am writing, in a rather roundabout way, about my inability to write. About what I cannot write. Or what I cannot bring myself to write. I am writing about why I…

The Necessity of Grace

For the past few months, I have been systematically unlearning and re-building aspects of my faith. Perhaps it stems from the nagging feeling that I did not choose this faith. What if I am a Christian only because I was born into a Christian family? If I hadn’t received the kind of conditioning I did,…

The Pink Mic: On Sexism in Churches

I recently returned to my home church and attended Sunday Service. Since its inception, my church has had an unwritten rule that women could not be part of the worship team. Only the menfolk – young and old – could sing on stage. The reasons are varied and sketchy – vague references and interpretations about…
